Vlt Spectroscopy of Blue Supergiants in Ic 1613 1
We present multi-object spectroscopy of young, massive stars in the Local Group galaxy IC 1613. We provide the spectral classification and a detailed spectral catalog for 54 OBA stars in this galaxy. The majority of the photometrically selected sample is composed of Band A-type supergiants. The remaining stars include early O-type dwarfs and the only Wolf-Rayet star known in this galaxy. Among ...
متن کاملA catalogue of OB associations in IC 1613
We present a catalogue of OB associations in IC 1613. Using an automatic and objective method (Battinelli’s 1991 technique) 60 objects were found. The size distribution reveals a significant peak at about 60 parsecs if a distance modulus of 24.27 mag is assumed. Spatial distributions of the detected associations and H II regions are strongly correlated.
متن کاملRevised Stellar Temperatures for Magellanic Cloud O Supergiants from FUSE and VLT-UVES Spectroscopy
We have undertaken quantitative analysis of four LMC and SMC O4–9.7 extreme supergiants using far-ultraviolet FUSE , ultraviolet IUE/HST and optical VLT UVES spectroscopy. Extended, non-LTE model atmospheres that allow for the consistent treatment of line blanketing (Hillier & Miller 1998) are used to analyse wind and photospheric spectral features simultaneously. Using Hα to constrain Ṁ , He i...
متن کاملThe First Known Mira - type Variable Star in IC 1613
King, Modjaz, & Li (1999) discovered Nova 1999 in IC 1613 at Lick Observatory. Both Fugazza et al. (2000) and Borissova et al. (2000) questioned this classification, because they were able to detect the star on images obtained in previous years. In infrared frames taken on Oct. 15, 1998, the Nova 1999 has (J −K) = 1.14 and K = 14.69 mag. Our light curve study, based primarily on 92 unfiltered L...
متن کاملOn The Pulsational Stability of Blue Supergiants
The brightest blue supergiants represent the most massive evolved stars known. They are believed to be in the core helium-burning phase of evolution. To discuss the question of their stability, model interiors of core helium-burning stars with hydrogen-burning shells have been constructed and tested for pulsational instability (15-1000 M0). All models are found to be extremely stable against nu...
